We have a weekly gathering here at Quality First where we discuss the bible, pray, share what’s going on in each other’s lives and encourage each other. This week’s discussion was about why we meet. Why do we fellowship, why do we gather, what is the point of us getting together?
1st Peter 5:8 reads:
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
That alone should be motivation to stay in a group. Have you ever watched the Wildlife Channel and seen how lions hunt? Let’s just say you don’t want to be the weak one that gets left behind, or the one who has wandered outside the pack, it doesn’t end well for them.
But getting together and being in a group has more benefits than just protection from the lion.
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
When we are gathered God is actually sitting there with us, fellowshipping with us, speaking to us, and praying with us.
Being gathered together strengthens us.
Being gathered together strengthens us.
Proverbs 27:17
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
When we get together we improve each other. We learn and grow in Christ. We sharpen our swords so we are better equipped to fight the lion, and sharpen our minds so we can better recognize who the lion is, so we can see the adversary for what he is and not be deceived by him.
Our lives here on earth are a battle. There is much more at stake than the physical wars that we see going on everyday around the world. We risk losing much more that flesh and blood, for those things are only temporary. We risk losing eternal life. We are just passing through, Earth is just a proving grounds for the soul. Will be gather and grow stronger? Will we listen to the General who sees the battle from beginning to end and knows all the steps and decisions we should make in order to survive? God is alive, He is speaking to us, He is telling us to gather in his name and sing praises to Him.
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of God richly dwell within you, with all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
We teach each other. We admonish one another, we grow in wisdom and we sing in thankfulness to God. That’s why we meet. We meet to learn how to love God and each other better. We meet so we can truly live the way God intended, because living is so much different than being truly ALIVE!
